Discovery to Impact

Bringing discoveries to market to impact the world

“UT has an incredible combination of advantages, and we’re in a unique position. With those, how can we do more to change the world? The flag we’re planting is that UT should become the world’s highest-impact public research university.”

— President Jay Hartzell

Discovery to Impact at The University of Texas at Austin brings research discoveries to the marketplace to impact the world. Working with world-class inventors, investors, creators and entrepreneurs, we launch startups and collaborate with established businesses to accelerate new products, services, solutions and cures.

We deliver results to contribute to UT Austin’s mission to be the world’s highest-impact public research university, unleashing knowledge, opportunity and innovation from the heart of Texas. And we relentlessly pursue our part of fulfilling UT’s promise: What starts here changes the world.

Our Impact

There are countless ways our faculty, staff and students work in service to society every day. One important way is developing tools, technologies and treatments that can be put into use. From lithium-ion batteries to COVID-19 vaccines, we know a groundbreaking discovery is only half the work. Getting it out of our labs and studios and into people’s hands is where impact happens.

For Inventors and Creators

From disclosing an invention to building a startup, the Discovery to Impact team guides UT faculty, staff and students through each phase of the research commercialization process.

For Companies, Entrepeneurs, and Investors

Looking for available technologies to license or other ways to team up with our world-class researchers? We’re here to cut through red tape (and burnt-orange tape, too) to help you reach your goals faster.

The Navigator
